7. ABOUT AN EXPERIENCE

This last year, I have been it in Australia. On the first days It was very difficult to adapt there because i didn't understand a lot of people and I didn't mix with them  people. But after some time, I met girls and boys at the shopping centres or to the cinema. We have had a very good time.

One day, In my free time, I was chosen to be a tennis player in a competition. I accepted but I was frightened because there was a lot of competitivity among the players.

I found a job as a waitress in a restaurant although. I was not sure they would give me the job but they took me up. I worked there for three weeks and I learn new things.

These days, I feel much happier and I think this has been an incredible year, because I have learn the language and I have made new friends. I've worked and I've had new experiences.

1. SUMMER HOLIDAYS

Hello, my name's in Júlia and today I'm going to explain my last summer. First I'm talking about Banyoles, second about l'Escala and finally about to the cruise.

Ok, let's start!

First I stayed in Banyoles. In there, I went to the parties and meeting friends.
We went to the swimming pool, we went shopping in Girona, in the evenings we went to eat in restaurants too.
It was fun!

Second I went to l'Escala with my parents and sometimes with my friends too. I swam in the sea, I jumped from the top of the very high rock to the sea.
And then, at nights we went to the restaurants and we played games. It was incredible.

And finally I went to the cruise with my parents. First we take the plane from Barcelona to Holland. In there we take the ship and we started the cruise. We went to the different capitals of important countries, for example: Berlín, Estocolm, Helsinki, St. Peatersburg, etc.
In the free time, we relaxed in the jacuzzi and we played table-tennis.
It was fantastic!!

Thank's for listening

Bye, bye: )

9. TRIP TO ITALY

My trip to Italy…

Hello my name's Júlia and I'm going to talk about travelling to Italy. I went to this trip with my class and 3 teachers.
First we went to Pisa, second we went to Florence and finally we went to Rome.

Okay, in Pisa we visited the tower of Pisa, the Cathedral and other monuments in that place. After that we went to have dinner in a local restaurant.

Once we finished our dinner we took the bus and we went to Florence. We stayed for two nights. On the first day we went to the Uffizzi Gallery and to Ponte Vecchio. In the evening we returned to Ponte Vecchio because we wanted to see the lights.

On the second day we visited the statue of David in the exhibition. The next day we took the train and we went to the capital of Italy, Rome. We stayed for two nights too.

On the first day we visited the town and we went to the Pantheon, Capitoline Hill, the St Paul's Basilica, the Trevi Fountain and we threw a coin and made a desire and we saw Trajan's Colum too. The next day we visited the Vatican and the statue of Moises. On our last day we went to visit the Colosseum.

My opinion about this trip is that we had to walk a lot but it was worth it.
It was an interesting travel and I am very happy as it was very amusing. I would like to go back! It was a very good experience.

6. AN OPINION ESSAY

The government plans to introduce school on Saturday mornings. My opinion is against because I think there are five days in the week and students go to school eight hours a day. A lot of students go out with their families or use this time for homework, buying clothes...

I believe that it is unfair because the students will not have time to be with their family and they won't prepare exams, they won't go to the competitions and there will not be any free time for any students.

If the aim of this government is to improve the level to education, I think they must give a lot of money for necessary materials, for example, to improve the blackboards. Because they don't work very well and the books could be better. On the other hand the school menu should change with less quantity and more quality.

5. ABOUT ME AND MY VIEW OF THE WORLD

My name is Júlia and I'm a student in Banyoles in Spain. I'm interested in dancing and sport. Some of my friends are into sports too. The thing that I like best is going to the shopping center for a whole day.

I don't think that the world is boring, because I like some places.

A lot of days, I meet my friends and go to the cinema. After that there aren't many things that I don't like, but we eat sandwiches and fizzy-drinks.

As for as the future, I think it is similar to the past, because I like my past. My friends are the best.

And something else I would like to travel to New York with my friends.

CINEMA

Saving Mr. Banks

This is a movie about the making of a movie but it doesn't matter if you've never seen the film in question, Disney's Mary Poppins from 1964. It was an adaptation of a children's novel by a British author, P.L. Travers, who for 20 years had refused to sell Walt Disney the film rights. When money problems forced her to compromise, she went out to Hollywood determined to stop Disney turning her book into something sugary and American.

She failed, of course, but the story of her campaign gives Emma Thompson a great comic role as the difficult, sharp-tongued author. The real Walt Disney was not so relaxed and kindly as Tom Hanks' interpretation, however. But that's the problem with the movie as a whole-it's a Disney version on Disney history, too sweet and sentimental. Poor P.L Travers would no doubt be horrified to see what they've done with her life.FM

VOCABULARY
Sugary: ensucrat
Sharp-tongued: llengua afilada

The Monuments Men

Perfect timing? Just as George Clooney stars in (and directs) a film about the hunt for art stolen by the Nazis during the Second World War, the newspapers reveal theat an elderly German citizen has been hiding one billion dolars of masterpieces in his apartment. Sadly, critics report that Clooney's film lacks dramatic tension-for once, reality is more exciting that ficition, it seems...RM

5 stemps to your summer job in the USA

1. First of all, you must be over 18 and have one year of post-Bac education to be eligible for a J-1 visa. If you are not yet 18, then wait. This part is easy. If you are 18, continue to no. 2...

2. Happy birhday! Now find a job. Starting in January, American employers will be advertising thousands of summer jobs through sites like Coolworks.com and Summerjobs.com. Don't leave it too late and don't go through a placement service-you'll play about 300 euros for it and you'll probably fins yourself working with ofhter Europeans rather than Americans!

3.Once you have the job, you need your J-1 visa. This is no problem, but you must go through a sponsor organization. These are numerous, but it's best to choose a Paris-based one that will be close to the American consulate-it's faster and more convenient in the event of an emergency. We recommend the Parenthèse agency. They charge you only for the visa process(620euros), put job offers on their Facebook page and provaide a free service correcting you cover letter when you apply for a job. They do not, however, ofefer a " job-finding" service. " Nobody should ever pay anybody anything to find a summer job in the USA!" says Patti Brown of Parenthèse.

4. Expect to work for 6-8 weeks to cover your travel and visa costs. After that you will start to make money for youself quite rapidly because your food and housing is free with most jobs. " In general, depending on how much they travel, students come back to France with about 2000 dolars after the summer" says Patti Brown.

5. Come back to France only marginally richer, but definitely more mature. And cooler. With and American accent and good English. Wich is worth a lot.

VOCABULARY
Advertising: publicitat
Rather: més aviat
Provaide: proveïr
Apply: aplicar
Housing: habitage
Mature: madur
Cooler: millor
Worth: valor

Magma mia!

Yellowstone, Wyoming
A supervolcano under Yellowstone national park is 2.5 times bigger than previously thought and could be "catastrophic" for the planet if it were to erupt. With a 90 km-long magma chamber, geologists say it could produce an ash cloud that would make two-thirds of the US uninhabitable. Luckily, scientists say no eruption is imminent, but they will be keeping a close eye on it!

THE WATERS OF MARS

A virus in the water on a Martian colony transforms people into zombie-like creatures who spray contaminated water over their victims. It's a masterclass in how to create tension using only a drop of water.

SPEAKING 6

Júlia: Hey, Marta. We're doing a questionnaire about identity. Do you want to have a look?
Marta: Yeah, go on then. Ask me something.
Júlia: OK, I'll ask you the interesting ones. Do you express yourself more through your haistyle or your clothes?
Marta: Er, through my clothes.
Júlia: Yes, me too. Right, do you usually know what music someone likes from the clothes they wear?
Marta: Oh, that's a difficult one. Not always, no.
Júlia: No, me neither. OK. Hoy aobut this one - do you prefer to hang out with a group of friends, or alone?
Marta: I prefer a group.
Júlia: Oh, I don't. I prefer to relax on my own.
Marta: We're a bit different then.
Júlia: It looks like it, yes.

SPEAKING 5

Júlia: Hello. Are you OK there?
Marta:  Yes, hi. I was given these jeans as a present but they're too small. Is it OK if I change them?
Júlia: That should be Ok. Have you got the receipt?
Marta: Yes, here you are.
Júlia: OK. Well actually, we've sold out of those jeans, I'm afraid. You can choose something else if you like.
Marta: Oh, right. Can I try these things on?
Júlia: Yes, sure. THe changing rooms are over there
...
Marta: What do you think of this coat? It isn't too long, is it?
Júlia: No, I don't think so. It's really funky.
Marta: OK. I'll take it then. Thanks.

SPEAKING 4

Júlia: Hello, there. Can I help you?
Marta T: Yes, I'm staying in Somerset with a friend next week and we were wondering if there's anything to see around there. Have you got any information?
Júlia: Yes, there are day trips to the Cheddar caves if you're interested. I'll get you a leaflet.
Marta: That sounds good. What time do the trips leave?
Júlia: Oh, they're fairly regular- they go every day except Monday at nine and eleven.
Marta: OK. And hoy much is the trip? We've got student cards.
Júlia: Let's see. Well, in that case it's 8 pounds per person. The full price is 12 pounds.
Marta: That's fine. We'll go on Thursday, then. Do we need to book it?
Júlia: I'll book it for you if you like. Can I take your names?

2.HISTORY OF A PRODUCT

Hi, my name's is Júlia and today I'm talking about the brand of converse.
I have chosen to speak about it brand of shoes Converse because I think they're very practical and comfortable. Besides you can use them for a lot of different things, such as: to practictise sports, to dress ups, to move around in your daily life…

This is possible because this brand has a lot of different models of shoes and perhaps somebody here is wearing a pair of them.

In 1908, Marquis Converse made the first shoes. He used rubber and canvas. He designed them to play basketball.

Later this shoe became the official NBA shoe and musicians started wearing them. In 2003 Nike bought the company and the shoe is very popular.

Any questions?
Thank's for listening.

RELATION SHIPS

Hi, Esther

We've been on holiday here in the Usa for a month now I've just me this guy Narcis.
He's absolutely hilarious, but I'm not sure how I feel about him. I need your advice.

I met him in the restaurant yesterday and invited me to o to the cinema. Both of us had a good laugh.
In the cinema he flirted with his friend. We ate snaks, pop corn and drank cocacola. After that I said goodbye and he walked me to the my house and Narcis kissed me.

I've been thinking about things a lot since then.
I'll probabily see him later. I am worried about him and the other friend what must I do?
What do you reckon?

4. THE HISTORY OF A PRODUCT

In 1908, Marquis Converse started a new shoe company called Converse Company. He used his surname for the company name.
In that time there weren't good sports shoes, and Marquis made the first shoe of rubber and canvas to play sports.

Some years later, in the 1920s, he designed a Special shoe for basketball. This shoe was called the Converse All Star. The basketball players wore this shoe and they promoted it.

Much later the shoe became the official NBA shoe, and this shoe became also popular with artists and musicians.

Recently, this shoe has became less popular. In 2003 Nike bought the company. Now the shoe is popular again and they sell millions of pairs.

3. PLANS FOR A VISIT

Hi Paula

I'm just writing to have more information about your visit.

I think you'll like New York. On Sunday morning, we're doing a guided tour with a car with my parents and my brother. We'll visit a lot of places and we'll go to see a NBA basketball match. It's incredible!
We'll have free time in the evening and we'll go to a musical and then go to the cinema.

Tomorrow morning we'll watch a horse competition. After that we will visit Park Square and meet some famous people in there.
We'll eat in the famous restaurant and in the afternoon we'll buy in the shopping centre.

We'll take some photos in different parts of the city. It'll be a fantastic holiday.

See you later my friend.
Bye, bye.

Saving space

Nasa is to send the first 3D printer to the international space station to help astronauts manufacture spare parts and tools. The space agency hopes to avoid emergencies such as the one that occurred on Apollo 13 in 1970. The, astronauts had to make their own carbon dioxide filter using a plastic bag and duct tape!

SUMMARY
My opinion is that I worry that could happen what happened to Apollo 13 in 1970. They had to use their own filter carbon dioxide using a plastic bag and tape. That if it had gone wrong was a disaster go.

VOCABULARY
spare: de recanvi
avoid: evitar
duct:  conducte

Banksy for sale

http://img.ibtimes.com/www/data/images/full/2013/02/23/347460.jpgBanksy's "Flower Girl" mural is to be sold at an auction in Beverly Hills this month, along with four earlier works. The piece which appeared on a Los Angeles gas station wall in 2008, is expected to go for $300,000. The final price, though, could be much more. Another mural by the British artist, "Slave Labour", found behind a shop in London, sold recently for $750,000.

SUMMARY

http://urbanartbomb.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/banksy-poster-for-sale-graffiti-line-graffiti-stencil-poster-print-for-sale.jpgThis news tells us that during this last time Banksy has sold two works to exaggeratedly high prices.

My opinion about this news is that the works are relatively expensive.

Banksy is a grafitty artist and is a great moralist. However, I think the price is exegerat and the era that we currently do not believe that prices will rise much higher pay for work.

I like your way of expression, as it tries and tries to light you look at little things that we should never realized that there are.

At present, Banksy is best known in the antiquity and his works are priced very expensive.

earlier: més d'hora
wall: paret
slave labour: treball d'esclau
