THE WATERS OF MARS

A virus in the water on a Martian colony transforms people into zombie-like creatures who spray contaminated water over their victims. It's a masterclass in how to create tension using only a drop of water.

SPEAKING 6

Júlia: Hey, Marta. We're doing a questionnaire about identity. Do you want to have a look?
Marta: Yeah, go on then. Ask me something.
Júlia: OK, I'll ask you the interesting ones. Do you express yourself more through your haistyle or your clothes?
Marta: Er, through my clothes.
Júlia: Yes, me too. Right, do you usually know what music someone likes from the clothes they wear?
Marta: Oh, that's a difficult one. Not always, no.
Júlia: No, me neither. OK. Hoy aobut this one - do you prefer to hang out with a group of friends, or alone?
Marta: I prefer a group.
Júlia: Oh, I don't. I prefer to relax on my own.
Marta: We're a bit different then.
Júlia: It looks like it, yes.

SPEAKING 5

Júlia: Hello. Are you OK there?
Marta:  Yes, hi. I was given these jeans as a present but they're too small. Is it OK if I change them?
Júlia: That should be Ok. Have you got the receipt?
Marta: Yes, here you are.
Júlia: OK. Well actually, we've sold out of those jeans, I'm afraid. You can choose something else if you like.
Marta: Oh, right. Can I try these things on?
Júlia: Yes, sure. THe changing rooms are over there
...
Marta: What do you think of this coat? It isn't too long, is it?
Júlia: No, I don't think so. It's really funky.
Marta: OK. I'll take it then. Thanks.

SPEAKING 4

Júlia: Hello, there. Can I help you?
Marta T: Yes, I'm staying in Somerset with a friend next week and we were wondering if there's anything to see around there. Have you got any information?
Júlia: Yes, there are day trips to the Cheddar caves if you're interested. I'll get you a leaflet.
Marta: That sounds good. What time do the trips leave?
Júlia: Oh, they're fairly regular- they go every day except Monday at nine and eleven.
Marta: OK. And hoy much is the trip? We've got student cards.
Júlia: Let's see. Well, in that case it's 8 pounds per person. The full price is 12 pounds.
Marta: That's fine. We'll go on Thursday, then. Do we need to book it?
Júlia: I'll book it for you if you like. Can I take your names?

2.HISTORY OF A PRODUCT

Hi, my name's is Júlia and today I'm talking about the brand of converse.
I have chosen to speak about it brand of shoes Converse because I think they're very practical and comfortable. Besides you can use them for a lot of different things, such as: to practictise sports, to dress ups, to move around in your daily life…

This is possible because this brand has a lot of different models of shoes and perhaps somebody here is wearing a pair of them.

In 1908, Marquis Converse made the first shoes. He used rubber and canvas. He designed them to play basketball.

Later this shoe became the official NBA shoe and musicians started wearing them. In 2003 Nike bought the company and the shoe is very popular.

Any questions?
Thank's for listening.

RELATION SHIPS

Hi, Esther

We've been on holiday here in the Usa for a month now I've just me this guy Narcis.
He's absolutely hilarious, but I'm not sure how I feel about him. I need your advice.

I met him in the restaurant yesterday and invited me to o to the cinema. Both of us had a good laugh.
In the cinema he flirted with his friend. We ate snaks, pop corn and drank cocacola. After that I said goodbye and he walked me to the my house and Narcis kissed me.

I've been thinking about things a lot since then.
I'll probabily see him later. I am worried about him and the other friend what must I do?
What do you reckon?

4. THE HISTORY OF A PRODUCT

In 1908, Marquis Converse started a new shoe company called Converse Company. He used his surname for the company name.
In that time there weren't good sports shoes, and Marquis made the first shoe of rubber and canvas to play sports.

Some years later, in the 1920s, he designed a Special shoe for basketball. This shoe was called the Converse All Star. The basketball players wore this shoe and they promoted it.

Much later the shoe became the official NBA shoe, and this shoe became also popular with artists and musicians.

Recently, this shoe has became less popular. In 2003 Nike bought the company. Now the shoe is popular again and they sell millions of pairs.

3. PLANS FOR A VISIT

Hi Paula

I'm just writing to have more information about your visit.

I think you'll like New York. On Sunday morning, we're doing a guided tour with a car with my parents and my brother. We'll visit a lot of places and we'll go to see a NBA basketball match. It's incredible!
We'll have free time in the evening and we'll go to a musical and then go to the cinema.

Tomorrow morning we'll watch a horse competition. After that we will visit Park Square and meet some famous people in there.
We'll eat in the famous restaurant and in the afternoon we'll buy in the shopping centre.

We'll take some photos in different parts of the city. It'll be a fantastic holiday.

See you later my friend.
Bye, bye.
